On Tuesday 15th
October, The National Autistic Society’s Push for Action campaign made its mark
in parliament with a huge event fronted by our campaigners, and attended by the
Minister for Care Services, Norman Lamb MP.
Push for Action is our
campaign to end the wait for support for adults with autism and their families.
Over 80 people with autism, family members and representatives from local
charities, all of whom have been pushing for action across England this year, descended on Westminster to tell their stories to
politicians. 54 MPs were also there to hear from our speakers and listen to the
real stories of our campaigners.
Cheryl Gillan MP, who took
forward the historic Autism Act in 2009, hosted the reception, which saw moving
speeches from two NAS ambassadors, Chris Goodchild and Sam Mukhurjee, as well
as a rousing call to action from NAS Chief Executive, Mark Lever.
Responding,
the Minister said: “As long as I am in
this job, I can assure you that I will do everything I can to make sure adults
with autism get the support they need.”
The reception also marked
the launch of our newest ‘employee’, Jenson, our giant Push for Action button
as he travels across the country until the end of October.
Jenson, along with our
campaigners, will be delivering our Push for Action petition to 10 Downing Street
on 31st October.
If you haven’t yet signed the petition, please
